Taiwan – Smart, green and stable. This is the product development and R&D direction that industrial UPS designer and producer Soltec Technology Co. Ltd is gearing toward with the release of its interactive UPS units—the APA series. The APA series features pure sine wave and low harmonic distortion that supports both linear and non-linear loads. Built on a wide range of automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) on bypass circuit for power stability, the unit is able to operate more effectively and safely compared to an online double conversion UPS. It can reach up to 99 percent efficiency on full load, and has at least 90 percent efficiency at half, a third or even a fifth of its capacity. The series is available in 650VA, 1kVA, 1.5kVA, 2kVA, 3kVA, 5kVA, 7.5kVA and 10kVA versions.
The Taiwan-based company also produces frequency converters and frequency inverters, and has entered various joint ventures with government and private sectors to extend its product lines. It aims to produce active power filters, inductive voltage regulators, solar-powered units and other energy-saving and environment-friendly power solutions.
In an interview with Global Sources, Soltec director Y.J. Lin has reiterated the company’s commitment to enhance efficiency, add power-saving mechanism and extend the lifespan of its products. The company has introduced a battery-monitoring module to its products, which extends battery life.
Soltec and the UPS market in the near future
Global UPS market is foreseen to grow further in the next 10 years, driven by the consumer market, as some homeowners have already begun buying power protection device for their homes. However, Lin believes that the UPS market will also play a vital role in various industries, particularly in the telecom, defense, semiconductor and steel industries. The biggest growth areas, according to forecasts, are within the medium and large UPS sectors. Soltec focuses on industrial applications, including factories, power plants, oil refineries and airports. The company expects 20 to 30 percent annual revenue growth.
Soltec, which has been designing and manufacturing in Taiwan since 1986, has produced more than 800 high-power custom units over the last five years—all with a defect rate of less than 0.4 percent. With the addition of its mainland China factory in 1998, the company is fast becoming one of the region's top online UPS suppliers. In addition to mainland China and Taiwan, its other main market includes the United States and Canada. The company is now increasing sales in Southeast Asia.
